Answer:

To add an event donation, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the participant who will have the donation applied to his participant record
  2. Right click and select Add donation gift
  3. At the prompt, indicate whether the participant is also the donor
  4. If applying a gift default set, choose the set from the drop down and click Apply. If not using a gift default set, choose Skip
  5. If the donor is not the participant, in the gift record, search for the constituent making the donation
  6. Complete the gift as usual then click Save and Close

Note: you must have rights to add gifts in RE to add an event donation
