Answer:

An exception file will not be created if an email is bounced back. These will go to the sender's inbox as a traditional bounce back email. You will want to decide internally how to handle these bad emails.

An exception file will be created if the email formatting is wrong, such as jane@@yahoo.com or janeyahoo.com.  An exception file will also be created if there are any errors associated with the mailing.

To have an exception file created rather than a series of pop up messages, choose a path on the General tab in Settings.
