Answer:

Use the existing participant import id and the existing gift import id and map as follows to accomplish this import:

For versions 3.3.2.5 and Earlier:

*If using the gift id, the value type for the gift id will be "Sponsoring Pledge - Linked Gift ID"  

For version 3.4 and Later:

*If using the gift id, use Participant>Sponsorship>Sponsoring Pledge>Linked Gift ID
